Working as a photographer out of Hobart, Tasmania produces a unique set of challenges for Sean Fennessy. When he’s not battling the icy winds that blow directly from Antarctica, he’s trying to maintain some creative momentum in the sometimes-lackluster cultural atmosphere that comes with living in a town at the bottom of an island at the bottom of the world.
It’s lucky, then, that Hobart (bordered on one side by the snow-dusted Mt Wellington and on the other by the Derwent Harbor) seems to continuously throw up a variety of off-beat characters and situations that make for truly interesting photographs.
Sean’s personal work looks at unusual discoveries in familiar places and while he has documented his travels overseas, it’s the constant challenge of finding new subject matter in local surroundings that produces his best work.
